Modernized infrastructure, additional routes benefit business and leisure travel.
Air travel is more than just logistics; it is a major factor when considering where to plant the business headquarters for a global company. Plus, a strong local airport is an important quality-of-life benefit for employees living in the region.
While the Des Moines International Airport (DSM) has long “punched above its weight” in air service options, recent state and local investment have set the airport on an unprecedented path of growth for the advantage of locals and visitors alike.
Transformative investment
DSM is nearing completion of a transformative new terminal project, which will open in January 2027. The expansion will add six new gates, increasing those available from 13 to 19, a 46% improvement in gate capacity. Two additional gates will be added in 2028 as part of the expansion.
The terminal is designed around one core priority: stress-free, easy-to-navigate travel. Larger, more comfortable hold rooms, modern concessions and improved dining options will elevate travelers’ experiences. Significant parking expansions and a more intuitive layout will make arrivals and departures smoother for both business and leisure travelers.
The new DSM terminal represents one of the largest public infrastructure investments in Iowa and demonstrates a long-term commitment to convenience, comfort and reliable connections for central Iowa. Hear what Dan Houston, retired Chairman, President and CEO of Principal Financial, says about the exciting investment and its anticipated impact on the global businesses in the region.
Traffic growth, nonstop destinations
DSM continues to outperform expectations for an airport of its size. In 2024, it handled a record 3,176,952 passengers – the second consecutive year surpassing the 3-million mark. DSM is on pace to break this record again in 2025, with projections showing a modest, but meaningful, increase.
Fifteen years ago, DSM offered just 17 nonstop destinations. Today, that number has more than doubled to 35, matching the nonstop offerings of much larger markets. This year was an unprecedented year, with DSM adding six new nonstop routes, far beyond the one or two typical annual additions.
As DSM grows its route map, adds capacity and invests in guest comfort, the airport is laying the groundwork for long-term economic vitality. Travelers benefit from an airport that is easy to use, offers strong nonstop connectivity and continues to secure new routes at a remarkable pace.
With this focus on growth and eye on the future, it’s clear DSM will be an air service advantage for Corteva leadership and employees for years to come. Join us in encouraging Corteva leadership to “Plant the HQ Here” by signing this petition.
